About Dr. Canby

Joni Canby, DO never forgets a face and her patience and kindness aren’t easily forgotten. As the founder of Progressive Women’s Care in Boardman, Ohio, Dr. Canby knows every patient’s story and takes the time to customize a care plan to fit their needs. As a board certified physician in gynecology and obstetrics, she is highly experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions affecting today’s woman. Ever popular with patients of all ages, Dr. Canby was also recognized by her peers, receiving a distinguished physician award in 2018.

Dr. Canby affiliates with Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and ValleyCare Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. She is dedicated to serving the needs of patients, regardless of age, and is especially committed to assisting the underserved in the Boardman and surrounding communities. Dr. Canby is also the only physician in the area that offers vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) services, taking on the additional malpractice insurance costs for the good of her patients.

Graduating with her medical degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia, Dr. Canby went on to complete her residency in family practice at Parkview Hospital in Toledo, Ohio and later her OB/GYN residency at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. In addition to her practice, Dr. Canby also is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University.

Along with her staff at Progressive Women’s Care, Dr. Canby offers a variety of services, including pregnancy care, menopause relief, infertility treatments, and hysterectomy procedures. She also is experienced in noninvasive cosmetic services for vaginal rejuvenation using Mona Lisa Touch®, as well as skin tightening options using the cutting edge TempSure™ Envi technology.
